Hi NM, I welcome you to this particular topic. What I suppose we all could use is some helpful advice as to how we can meet the needs of our LD kids who are, or may be, well below grade level in Reading. As I mentioned| above, I have a fifth grade boy who can't read or write. I do read the tests, such as Social Studies, to him quietly while the others are completing it independently. I give him a multiple choice test, which should be easier than a fill-in-the-blank test. I have him sit at the front of the room, so that I can point to his paper when he appears to be lost. I send any work which he really | | struggles with, such as math, to his resource teacher, who helps him with it. Count me in as a regular elementary teacher with no formal special education training who is interested in helping kids like this one. Let's turn this topic into a constructive help session, rather than a battle zone.
