You don't have to be a teacher for very long before you start to believe in a group of teaching spirits or deities if you will. Some are benelovent and kind hearted , others seem to have a dark ironic or boderline evil personality type. They rival the Greek gods in their quirky sense of humor or drama.

    1. The Ah-ha fairy- an elusive creature who delights on taking her/his sweet time in sprinkling pixie dust on the "I don't get it" cloud that hangs over many classrooms. She usually waits for the moment before you slam your head on the front board in total frustration.

    2. The pencil imp- a nasty litttle creature that steals, hides or eats every pencil in the room. I created a counter spirit called the pencil fairy who replaces the missing pencil.

    3. The germ spawn- this is an evil creature. It works its way through a classroom granting a teacher a class with at least 4 absent students at all times.Problem students seem to be imune to its grip. When the spawn is at it peak, it fells the teacher during the next school break.( I'm fighting the spawn at this moment.)

    4. The transfer muse- this is a muse of mixed blessings or curses. I've been on the curse side recently. This muse takes and drops off students at odd times during the year. I ticked this deity off big time( don't ask me how, I'm clueless) This deity gave me 3 transfer children, all with major problems. To reward me further, it took away one of my few well behaved, A students and sent her to the west coast. If any one knows the proper offering to this deity please post .

    5. The weather maker- one deity agreed upon by students and teachers alike. When you are having a rough week and the Weather maker gives you a break(aka a storm day) be properly thankful. Its schedule is seasonal and very busy ,so do your best weather dance and wait.

    6. Inspiritaion- The royality of this list and most benveolent. It lives in the heart of every teacher. It keeps us trying despite the hurdles, restrictions ,and utter foolishness in the business today. It comes to us in quiet moments when we need the lift to continue to make the difference in a time of apathy and disrespect of education.
