Centers
By iluvpooh

Clip to ScrapBook
my group colors were set up based on seating only and to rotate through centers-centers were based on skills taught for reinforcement

last year I had four guided reading groups (animal names based on my classroom
theme)-I met with my 2 lowest groups everyday, my middle group 3x a week and my high group 2x a week for 20 min per group:

a a a a a
b b b b b
c d c d c

my centers were: book nook, listening center, writing center, read the room, word zone, big book, poetry, drama/puppet center, computer-each student
had their own computer day and they got to use the computer on that day (I had 3 computers)
I set up three centers-20 min each-for them to rotate through-I did not do seat work-I would call the guided reading groups when I was ready for them.

You have to do what is comfortable for you-things will come together once your reading groups are established-it is hard to see at first, if it something that you are not used to-it took me a while to get used to things when I first started to implement centers-remember to model the behavior that you expect-a good book to use is:
Literacy Work Stations: Making Centers Work by Debbie Diller

Many people allow students to choose what center they want to go to

Good Luck
