Also, we have made math definitions books. These tie in with our reading series and the use of captions, illustrations, headlines, titles, etc... For example- each child is given a math term that we have been learning. For some of my higher end kids I gave them a term we would be learning about becuase I knew they woudl be able to understand its meaning and be able to convey that meaning with a picture. Then they were given a sheet of boxes and had to fill them in with the appropriate thing- Title (word they were given), Definition (found from math book, dictionary, online, etc), a Picture Box (draw an example of what the word looks like), A caption box for underneath the picture ( Ex: Mrs. M is dividing the cookies among her students). The kids loved these books and really did read them all year. I made a math powerpoint book where they each child had to find something in our school that represented a multiplication problem. EX: The bookcase has 5 shelves. Each shelf has 20 books. How many book are there? 5X20=100 They typed all this on their slide and then we inserted a digital photo of whatever they came up with. Their creativity was awesome! We showed the PP at an parent night and printed the pages for a classroom book. I have also done The Important Book and used that format for just about any topic. I collect stories the kids have written and create an anthology of kid work. I love making class books and wish I had more time to do more!
