Supplies By KcK

All cleaning supplies just go in different baskets I bring in for the first two days. We have half days the first two days of school, so I just bring in a few laundry baskets to have the kids put the supplies into until I can put them away. It is kind of double work, but in the craziness of the kids coming in loaded down with bags, I can't stand trying to stop and get everything in its place right away. So into the baskets all that stuff goes right away so I can stow it away and worry about it later.
For all other supplies, I have kids bring their backpacks to their desks. I have them take out | | the supply box they purchased and give htem a big ziploc bag with their name already written in sharpie. I allow them to keep their scissors, five pencils, one glue stick, two dry erase markers, and one pack of either crayons, colored pencils, or markers. All extras go into the plastic bag. All glue bottles go into our glue bottle basket. Then we move onto notebooks and folders. I collect one folder to use for a Friday Folder and we stow everything else in the desks until the first session of each subject where we will need a folder or a notebook. I dont see any need to assign those on the first or second day. Anything that is not on the supply list gets sent home, it is part of my policies. Oh, and notebook paper gets collected and put into community containers around the room.
I really do not keep track of students that dont have supplies. If they are missing something, I have a class supply most likely. The only thing I really hound them for is the dry erase markers because we go through so many of them. Everything else I have plenty of extras of.
Hope that makes sense.
