Clip to ScrapBook
An employee of the private company that runs your charter school. Charter schools are "privately run, publicly funded". However, they usually participate in "state" retirement and sometimes unions, and many other things
that regular districts do. Mine (CA) does not have a union, and that's a good thing! But we do the same state retirement plan (STRS) as the districts.

All charter schools are unique and different, so there is not any one thing I could tell you that is either an advantage or disadvantage. Take each school case by case. All charters must participate in state testing just like the public
schools.

Here are some issues to think about:

Does your school get facilities from it's sponsoring district, or pay their own way?

Are the salaries competitive to the local surrounding public districts?

Do you have a contract? Most will offer you an "employment agreement" which isbreakable at any time by either party. Good performance (teaching) will be important at these schools; otherwise you could be let go without notice.

Is your school financially stable? Do they have a strong history in the community of being fiscally sound? Many are forced to close unexpectedly if they are unable to meet payroll.

Hope I gave you some things to ponder.

Oh, and I have worked for both public and charter, and I'm starting year #5 in charter, which means I love it! Good luck!
