Determine the students instructional reading level by doing either a Developmental Reading Assessement(Celebration Press) or Use a Informal Reading Inventory. Once you have establish the students use a systematic phonics program that has predictable text. Be sure to include lots of practice with comprehension as you teach the phonics lessons. You may want to use the four blocks method to teaching reading. Including lots of word play.
