Some answers

I probably can't answer all of your questions, but here's what I know:

Do you know why your school abandoned the program? They never said. They started working with the IB program in January 2004 to implement the
following year. Nothing was ever said about it in 04-05. It could be because we got a new headmaster; maybe he didn't like it for some reason. At my new school, I have read articles against the IB program, so maybe one of those was his reason.

Also, did you do any curriculum alignment with the broad themes they use?Yes. The elementary teachers made a giant chart to figure
out what they teach at which levels and to try to streamline it all so that it wasn't repeated year after year.

Did you take your existing curriculum and reorganize it to fit the IB themes? Our existing curriculum was pretty incomplete at the time. We started with what we had and then went from there.

Did you rewrite your curriculum? Yes, but as I mentioned, we got a new headmaster the following year, and he brought in his own stuff.

Are you in the US or Canada or elsewhere?
US

Do you write themed units and then break them down into daily lesson plans that follow the theme? I didn't really do themed units, but I think the IB program would still allow for that.

I will be attending a conference this Oct. in Northern VA. Did you find that attending the conference helped answer your questions?I didn't go. We had an IB program lady come to our school for an inservice, and she did a good job of answering a lot of our questions.

Good luck!
