independent reading
By KT

Clip to ScrapBook
Every book? It seems to me that would take the pleasure out of independent reading...occasionally I think it is a good idea. Kids do like to discuss what they are reading just as adults like to discuss a good book...but we don't feel the need to make a diorama. I would use parent helpers to call kids up 1:1 while you are teaching to discuss their books. A brief title, author, short summary and favorite part would be sufficient. Maybe several times a quarter they would be required to choose a more detailed written report or project to share with the class for oral speaking practice. You could also have kids do short "book talks" when you have a few extra minutes.
