Helping students read
By Debby

Clip to ScrapBook
Dear Reg,
Have you tried books and matching tapes. When others are reading, I have my 2 on the listening center with books at their level. They take this home the same night. Next day they have a few choices of how to respond to their book, just as my other students do. I also asked the Grade 5 teacher to lend me 2 students who are sensitive to others to be my kids tutor buddies. We do it 3 times a week; my kids have to do flashcard sight words first ( I give them ones to practice from the Dolch words I have tested), 2 words to practice sounding out and a short story to read that is at their level. This takes about 15 minutes and I work out the times with the other teacher. Hope this might help!
