What exciting finds! As the start of school approaches, one of our favorite places to recycle is right at school! All the teachers at my school put their "trash" out in the hall by their door. We scour the hallways looking for goodies! I've seen one bookcase go to about 5 different teachers so far! The teacher next door to me was new last year. She started cleaning out things left by the previous teacher in addition to things of her own she no longer wanted. I grabbed up sheets of stickers, good markers, a couple of paperback books, etc. We also haul bulletin board stuff, teaching manuals, etc. that we don't want down to the teacher's workroom to a "free" table. Usually stuff doesn't stay there more than a day.

Also, it pays to let parents know that you will accept "gifts" of all kinds. We had a kindergarten parent who works at OfficeMax send tote bags w/ goodies for all of the teachers, just because his daughter's teacher asked if they ever had "sample" pens or pencils. I had a parent this year that donated children's paperback books that were some sort of give-away from her company. They weren't well-known authors or anything, but hey, they were free!
