Flexible Homogeneous, etc. By popcorn

|
We make flexible homogeneous groups for guided reading groups, but for our language stations and mixed curricular stations we group children heterogeneously. The latter is helpful as children see each other's strengths which aids everyone's growth. The reading groups change as students needs change, whereas the other groups remain together generally for half the year. For partner activities, I pull the popsicle sticks to generate random groupings or we use the "clock" partners. I explain the above groupings at Back-to-School Night.
