lack of motivation
By KT

Clip to ScrapBook
Hmmmmmmm...this is a tough one. I would first look in the child's cum record, check his test scores and/or talk to last year's teacher to see if this is a new problem or an ongoing one. The parent may be able to clue you
in to his activity/motivation level at home. If this is a new problem perhaps the school counselor could help get to the root of it. If it is an ongoing problem I would try to find time to meet with him 1:1 (lunch?) and try to get to know him personally. Maybe he has an interest in rockets or frogs and you could give him books on the subject. Maybe he is a whiz at mechanical things which
hasn't been noticed in class. If you can somehow tap into his interests and plan things to meet those needs, maybe he will do work for you in return. It may take time for him to come around. I get the feeling that he needs to realize that someone cares about his interests and cares if he succeeds or not. Good luck.
