Understanding and Patience!
By intent

Clip to ScrapBook
I was a spec. ed. teacher and had a student just like yours. Our school has a care team made up of p.e, art, music, counselor, spec. ed., etc.
We met together and came up with a plan to assist this child in helping build
some routine, as well as TLC in his life.

His home background was just awful! I would ask him what he needed in the morning and he began opening up and identifying his needs. Sometimes he was tired and needed more sleep, so off to the nurses office for a nap. Sometimes he was hungry, so off to the kitchen for a meal.
Other times he was just hungry for much needed love
and attention. We worked together to provide extra TLC. It wasn't always easy, but we really pulled together, sometimes giving up our plan time to help out. He really responded well, and after a few months became one of the best loved kids in the school.

The important thing to remember is that no child that age is just plain bad -- they are hurting and angry -- and probably because some adult failed them badly. Don't become another adult who fails him or gives up on him. Sometimes we are the only stable person in their life!
