our dismissal
By roo

Clip to ScrapBook
Our school (preK-6) has early, regular, and late buses. The first to be dismissed are any early bus riders (this is 2 buses). They are called down right at dismissal time. After a few minutes, the regular buses are called.
A few minutes later, primary walkers/car riders are called. After that, intermediate walkers/car riders are called. At that time, any late bus riders or day care students go to the cafeteria. Each week one teacher has bus & after school detention duty. That teacher monitors all late bus students until their bus arrives. This leaves the rest of us to get something done in our classrooms.
We used to each keep our own late bus kids, but this was really not very efficient.
We do not do the "duckling" style that you mention. All of our students get where they need to go under their own steam. Letting the younger walkers/car riders go earlier saves them from getting run over by the older kids. Also during the first few weeks of school, 6th graders come down to help kindergarten and 1st grade students find where they need to go.
