Move and Sit, 504 By Bassett lover

I have seen Move and Sit cushions work wonders. They cost under thirty dollars and can be ordered on the internet. If you just want to try it out without spending the money you can buy a beachball and fill it partially| with air. It can be tricky to get the right amount of air as it differs for each child. Also a T stool can be helpful, again something that a creative person can make. If the child has a diagnosis from a doctor and his disability impacts his education enough to demonstrate "educational need" then he may qualify under 504 for help in the classroom. "Educational need" means different things | | to different people so you may have to show failure or keep careful documentation for a while at the start of the school year. Also, I have had success with some students using a stress ball during instruction time; velcro stuck to the front of their desk (not to keep them in their seat,-smile- but just a small peice for them to rub-you'll have to offer the soft part as well as the "pokey" part to determine student preference; permitting students to chew gum or having a snack of fruit leather (not Fruit by the Foot, but real fruit leather). Also you might talk to your OT about a weighted vest.
