Try letting him stand during instruction time. I have had a few boys who need this so I put their desks at the back or on the side of the room and told them they could stand if they needed to and did get out of control. They knew they had to push their chairs while they stood. I have actually had parents come to conferences and tell me they really appreciate me allowing their child to stand and they noticed a difference in them.
