problems socially in later grades
By pkjw

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught 3 students who skipped kindergarten because of high intelligence and skill level. In third grade all three were behind their classmates socially and their academics suffered. I am sure in other grades the
social differences would not be as great but there are developmental jumps at certain ages. Third grade is a big one.

My son (IQ -133) missed the birthday cut-off by 5 weeks and I chose not to put him ahead. It was suggested but, I have never regretted this decision. His friend made the cut off by 3 days. He also has a high IQ and his mom chose to let him go on to school.
He has many more social problems. Some may be personality but most are definately maturity related.

Another thing to consider...how will she feel being a year later than everyone else getting a driver's permit and other big social steps such as dating (if you have an age restriction in your household).

Hope this doesn't sound too one sided. You know your daughter best and I am sure you will make the right decision.
