AZ, Risa, and....
By LindaR

Clip to ScrapBook
AZ: How thoughtful and resourceful you are! I just now was able to take a peak at your wonderful webpage. Thank you for providing a "ready resource" for this endeavor. As teachers, I do not think we could ever have too much
free time---truly, if this was "free" time, you would be taking a much-needed nap or getting a pedicure, or... ;)

AZ and Risa and....: It'll be fun to work together to "build" the list. The timing for me couldn't be more perfect, because I'm getting ready to teach a totally different grade level this next year. One of my goals is to help the kids develop higher level thinking
skills, so they can be more self-directed in their learning.

Comparing, classifying, metaphors, and analogies are powerful research-based strategies that have proven to impact student achievement (45% gain!). Word ranking is definitely an effective instructional strategy for students to think critically!

A correction regarding the sample I gave ('my' needs to be added). It should read:

"The flowers in my garden are pretty, but the flowers in my neighbor's garden are beautiful! However, you should see the flowers in my grandmother's garden. They are exquisite!"

I'm wondering, though, if this might be too difficult of a sample by itself for the kids--? Should more samples be provided that are a bit simpler?

Thanks again for all your hard work :)

LindaR
