Yes, please stay on this board! I actually found Proteacher when I was teaching 8th grade (in 2001). Even though it was geared for elementary, I still found very useful information and support. I've been hooked ever since :D .

I have no doubt you'll do an outstanding job. You don't stay in education for 36 years without learning a few things :p. No doubt they have a lot of respect for your ability, although it stinks that it's not your preferred position. I think I would be more upset at not getting to work with my teaching partner. He will still be in the same (original) position, right?

If it's any consolation, I really loved teaching 8th grade! I think their hormones are a little more balanced out or something. :)
