Boy, you sure are preaching to the choir! I'm going through the same thing! Loved your idea, Superteach; think I'll try it!

We, too, have Powergrade. I teach 6th grade. Seems like my parents DO check it - like the week before the end of the marking period! If you won't take work assigned weeks before (but not handed in), then they want you to offer extra credit!

My husband is the technology teacher, and he has been teaching the 6th graders to check their own grades on Powerschool, then they check each week. That has helped quite a bit.
