No educational benefit...

That's what our superintendent said about silent reading time, and we were told were not allowed to have silent reading time (like DEAR) anymore. Most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard, I did it anyway, as part of our "morning work." I can't imagine anyone thinking that teaching children the pleasure of reading what they enjoy has no educational value!
