Departmentalization
By Jen

Clip to ScrapBook
I can relate with your feelings, however I had just the opposite problem. Two years ago, the third grade was departmentalized to the point that I taught only Language Arts/Reading and my counterpart taught Math, Science/Social
Studies. I truly loved this idea because I could focus on only one area and not have to worry about trying to fit everything in. Well last year we were told there would be no departmentalization in any grade level. What a shock this was for me! However, I took it in stride and truly loved this change. I don't think I could every go back to just teaching language/arts. My point
that I'm trying to make is flexibility is a must for the teaching profession. You can still integrate the curriculum (putting a stronger focus on the area you will be teaching {SS/Science}), but not to the point you probably were. You will lose just a small amount of the flexibility. Be flexibile and try to have a positive attitude! Good Luck!
