I like to begin the school year with How to Be Cool in the Third Grade by Betsy Duffey.Robbie wants to be "cool" in third grade. He knew he needed a plan so he develops a list. First on the list was getting rid of the| name "Robbie". He has problems avoiding his mom's kisses at the bus stop and the bully who calls him "Baby Wobbie". This is a great read aloud chapter book. We also write a class book at the conclusion and list things our class believes will make you "cool" in third grade. Another great read aloud I just discovered is Judy Moody by Megan McDonald. want school to begin and is in a bad mood about it. I also plan to use the poem "I'm in a Rotten Mood" by Jack Prelutsky. There are also ideas in the Sept (2001) issue of Primary Mailbox to go along with Judy Moody.
