I have done this project for two years and my third graders LOVE this! At first, I just posted a note on the board like you did. I got several schools that wanted to participate but at the end, we had not covered all the states. This year, I joined an organized project where they take one person from each state that commits to the project. This way if everyone holds up their end of the bargain, you get postcards from all states. This has proven to be a great tool for learning about the great USA. This particular "group" has filled all the states already, but I know there are others out there doing the same project. It is definitely worth your while! Good Luck!
