Microwave Dilema
By LiveLaughLove

Clip to ScrapBook
My very first year teaching it seemed that every student in my class brought things to "heat up" for lunch. I sent a note home to parents asking them NOT to send in things that needed to be heated up since it was taking
too much time. Some parents got angry and said that is all they could afford....when really I think they meant to say that is all the had time for.

Anyhow, same thing happened the next year, but I was able to set up a routine for it at the start, so it was not that bad.

The third year I had a strictly NO students using the microwave rule, but when I went on maternity
leave the sub let them and the parents kept sending in frozen meals.....

Last year I left the microwave out of my classroom. I was at a new school and I just did not want to bother. BUT by the time I would heat my lunch in the lounge (I know, as bad as the kids) people would get to chatting and poof lunch was over!

I am at another new school this year and I am allowed to bring a microwave, but I have just had bad experiences with it.

Do you have a microwave in your classroom? Do other teachers use it? Do students use it?

Thanks!
