Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic
By mshicks

Clip to ScrapBook
I recently did an action research project examining the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. As with most of the dichotomies we find in education, my feelings fall in the gray area. Kids are different...and what works for one may not necessarily work for the next. I teach at the primary level and I try to use a combination in my class. I prefer to use intrinsic motivators sporadically so that the children don't "expect" them. Even as adults, we like to be rewarded sometimes too.
