students repeat

Clip to ScrapBook
I "go visual" for most all of my directions. They are posted on the board or chart paper. (I took Envoy and use a lot of those techniques). For simple directions, I often will call on my kids to repeat the directions in their own words. This keeps them listening until I say go.

I also have a bell in my room that I use. It's one of those "order up" bells, not the other kind!! One ring means go and two rings means stop and three rings means sit in the carpet area. It works well once they learn it, which doesn't take long after playing a few games in the beginning of the year.

Another idea that I got off of proteacher last year to get the class attention was saying "And a hush fell over the crowd...." and the whole class says "Hush". I loved it!
