switching

Clip to ScrapBook
We have a laminated poster by the door listing everything they ususally need to take with them when we switch classes. If there's something they don't need that day, we just cross it out with an overhead marker. If they
need something extra, like markers, crayons, etc. we write that in at the bottom. They use this as a guide to make sure they have everything they need to switch classes. Sometimes I go through it out loud and other times I just remind them to check it. It's really helpful. It avoids a lot of penalties for not being prepared. We also have a switch clipboard that travels with the class.
It lists everyone's name, there's a spot for the date...basically it's a grid. Students get one "freebie" each quarter where they can forget materials with no consequence. When that happens, they cross out their name on the list. After that, every time they forget, they write their name on the grid and circle the subject they weren't prepared for. This equals a color change on our behavior system. Students rarely forget anything. In fact, I think I had 1 student forget something twice during 4th quarter. It works very well.
