My experience online...

I posted this response awhile back...I hope this will give you an idea of what to expect. I HIGHLY recommend Walden!

I received my Master's (Reading and Literacy) from Walden
University online over a year ago. Their Master's Program is Portfolio-based, which is a wonderful way to showcase one's learning.

It was a VERY INTENSIVE 20 months of my life, but I LOVED it. I can tell you that I experienced major growth as a teacher and my classroom instruction has been positively transformed. In addition to the required weekly online discussions and quizzes,

a paper had to be written each week, which was to be in response to the reading, video presenters, and classroom application.

I took 10 courses, each 8 weeks long. I'm a perfectionist, so I'm sure that I put in more time than was necessary--about 12 hrs each week. The instructors for each of the courses were very supportive and knowledgeable, and my cohort of teachers was a very special group.

The course presenters on the videos are experts in their fields, and many of them are well-known authors (Dorothy Strickland, Richard Allington, Patricia Cunningham, Donald Bear, to name a few). I was able to take EVERYTHING I learned back to my classroom.

One last thing...Having a laptop allowed me to still take trips out of state to be with family :)
