Juggling skills
By Risa

Clip to ScrapBook
Teaching is where you will learn to develop your juggling skills! You have lots to think about what with setting up the classroom, developing your curriculum plan, going through your teacher's manuals, incorporating all those
great ideas you found in your courses and student teaching and, well, everything, else that is buzzing around in your head, right now.

I agree that one of the major factors that will determine success will be how you deal with your classroom procedures. You may have the best lessons planned and your classroom may be the best decorated, but the key will be how you and your students
interact with each other. As most here will attest, students (of any age) are not little obedient robots that perform just because we want them to.

I agree that you should get a firm idea of what and how you want students to respond in a typical day. Here's a column by Harry Wong, who has been recommended by several others in this thread. It will give you food for thought regarding your first day. It's a few years old, but very applicable. Also, if you look through the other columns linked under this article, you'll find more useful information.
