Congratulations on your new class! Second grade is a great grade with less pressure than some of the other grades. I agree with the others tat the first few weeks of school, procedure is extremely important. Things run
much more smoothly and you have more time to teach if the kids know what you expect them to do and how to do it. Some of the proceudres that you might wish to think about include: sharpening pencils (You might want to limit the times this can be done--a container of pencils to borrow from would help.), folders for homework, where to put completed work (I have a basket with highlighters
nearby. Students circle their names to remind them to put their names on the papers.), what to do when entering the room (a do-now, DEAR, etc.), bathroom policy (How often they may go, specific times, signing out), attendance, etc.
