I don't think anyone ever forgets that first classroom their first year. I still have a picture that my mother-in-law took of me in my first classroom. I agree with the other posts that say to decorate your room first. Make| sure that you take at least a small space out of the room to decorate for yourself. It doesn't matter if that space is or is not accessable to students after the start of the year, but do have a space that is yours. There really is not a 'place' in my room that the students aren't allowed (I do have the space by my desk decorated with personal items and pictures of family), but I don't | | allow them to get into my file cabinets - that is where I keep records and my purse. ;) I would also recommend not spending too much money at this point on curriculum support materials (even if you have curriculum in hand, you really don't know what others will give to you). If the teacher that left your room left a lot of stuff, don't spend too much time going through it now - if you want to look at it, put it in a box and keep it for later (it may all be junk and going through it would just be a waste of your time, but it may be good stuff:D so save it for later) As school supplies go on sale in July and August, I always buy several extra boxes of markers, crayons, colored pencils, and pairs of scissors).
