I did like the suggestion of the clear ziploc bag --- the kids could actually see the changes. However I still think I would dye my large quantities at home and demonstrate or let the kids dye in 1 cup quantities. (a good lesson for the materials and materials science strand) Dyed macaroni is great for patterning, sorting, counting etc. This stuff lasts a long time. I have had some for almost 20 years --yikes!
