    District-wide Assemblies

I am not a fan of most assembly programs...usually a few grade levels are not interested or a teacher is not focused on keeping his/her group mindful of the rules of acceptable behavior which makes for a miserable setting. That being said...

Our district is K-6 and we have had a few successful programs which kept most all children involved and interested. We had Chinese Acrobats who were unbelievable! You could hear a pin drop except for the occassional sighs of amazement...in unison! We've also had success with African dancers/drummers, a hip-hop group who gave a great message via music and dance, a sports mascot, a science presentaion from a museum that dealt with static electricity and had great participation, and an illustrator/author (but the program divided by age for a specific message). The key seems to be music that appeals to all.
