lining up

Until I get to know my students personalities a little, I call by rows, quietest group, etc. After about 2 weeks, I assign 5 teams. I try to balance the ratio of boys to girls, noisy to quiet, leaders to followers... I try to put best friends, best enemies, and behavior problems on separate teams (such as 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 so there's a whole team in between). On Monday, team 1 lines up first, then 2, 3, 4, and 5. On Tuesday, it's 2, 3, 4, 5, 1. These teams are permanent for the entire year and are also sometimes used for quick grouping for projects, collecting books, etc.
