Lining Up
By Kerri

Clip to ScrapBook
Tom's ideas are great. I have been teaching for two years. I do the same things that he suggested.

Sometimes, as a problem-solving thing, I will tell them to line up in some certain order, like the order of their birthdays,
or from tallest to shortest, etc. WITHOUT TALKING! This is really hard for some of them. They have to find other ways to communicate without talking. After a few times though, they get it done amazingly quick.

Sometimes I will have them line up by quizzing them. For example, if we are studying the 6 multiplication tables, I will say "6 times 7." Whoever raises their hand first and

gets the answer right gets to line up.

Another way I sometimes have them line up is to say things like:
"If you have a sister, line up."
"If you only have one brother, line up."
"If you are wearing green, line up."
"If you have a pet dog, line up."
etc.
