    I try to incorporate both into my schedule. Mine looks something like this:

    30 minutes Morning Meeting, Interactive Writing, Read aloud
    15 minutes Shared Reading
    25 minutes Word Work/Phonics
    45 minutes Reading Workshop (mini lesson, independent reading,partner reading (pull reading groups then)
    15 minutes Reading Workshop (after lunch)
    45 minutes Math
    45 minutes Specials
    45 minutes Writing Workshop
    Recess
    45 minutes Workshop (Science/Social Studies, Math, Word Work, Reading activities that rotate for different groups)
