Accelerated Math at 3rd Grade
By TeachFun

Clip to ScrapBook
We have Accelerated Math available at school. Our required curriculum is Everyday Mathematics and is very time consuming. I do try to have each student set up on AM and encourage them to use it when finished with other
math work. Somedays I use it to give myself a break. My teaching partner sends it home as homework. I have made practice sheets available to go home if the student chooses, but I ask them to always do the tests at school.

I know it is used in 4th and 5th grades as well, as an addition to Everyday Math. The kids seem to enjoy the change in format. I like that it exposes them
to a different format in questioning. It does allow individualization. I place a few of my kids on a level below if that's where they need the practice.

I don't know if any of our staff was formally trained. We've just figured it out as we have time! Our hardware isn't always reliable so this year I have scored practices and tests myself rather than having the students scan their scan cards. Sometimes they have to wait, but it has been a lot less stressful for me.
