What do you think about English (grammar)
By Judy24

Clip to ScrapBook
We have an English book for each grade level (nouns, verbs, etc.). I teach 6th. I find every year that many kids don't remember what certain things are even after I know they passed that particular test months ago. I also
found out last year that 7th and 8th grade rarely use the English book. I feel like I bend over backwards trying to teach Grammar, when I could be doing so much more with writing. With the time I have I can only teach reading and writing or reading and grammar, so I'm always alternating. The other three 6th grade LA teachers teach English, but I'm ready to hang it up. Next year I
would definitely make sure that we know what the eight parts of speech are, but I wouldn't go into the stuff like transitive and intransitive verbs. Help proteacher friends! Make me realize the need for this grammar, or convince me that letting it go would be ok.
