journals
By Jennifer

Clip to ScrapBook
A good start to the morning is posting a journal entry on the board for those students who get ready for the day quickly and then have nothing to do. Post simple questions on the board like "If you could live anywhere on
Earth, where would you live and why?" or "What is the best sport to play and why?" Have the students write their answers in mini paragraphs, using as much correct spelling, punctuation, etc. as they can. Tell the students you will read the journals every once in a while to make comments (otherwise you would drive yourself crazy trying to grade all of them all the time!). They can also draw
illustrations next to each journal entry for added fun. If they don't finish, it's an activity they can come back to during the day when there's that spare 5 minutes you don't know what to do with.
