Poems

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi
I use a weekly poem. I have a bulletin board in the room specifically for it. I incorporate handwriting as well as public speaking. The children all have a little chart with squares on them. The children copy the poem on Monday, we do actvities with the poem about poetry and language. They take their copy home to study. For Friday they need to copy it in their best cursive and then they have the opportunity to recite it. They really get into this part as the year goes on...rapping, dramatic readings...it is great. If they recite it they receive a sticker on their chart. Oh...I keep their Monday copies of the poems in a booklet so at the end of the year they have a book of poems. I use many of Douglas Florian books for poetry.
