frog idea By Jennifer

This is a game I play on the first day of school. It's called frog bingo. The prep work you'll need to do is have each child's name written on large cut-outs (like a star or a hand print or a frog, etc.) with a magnet on| the back of each and a bunch of bingo markers. I give the students an empty bingo board with a frog on the center square (the usual free space on a bingo board). Have the students go around the room getting the names of every kid in the class (first names only or it takes forever collecting the names). If you have duplicate of a child's name, tell them to put their last initial. Once everyone | | has a full board of names, you're ready to play. If you have more kids than spaces on the board, just tell them not everyone will get everyone's name, if you have less, include your name and the principal's name, etc. Mix up those names you made in a box and pull them out one at a time, posting it on the board. Each time you pull out a name, the students should cover that child's name with a bingo marker and that child should stand for just a second so everyone sees the face that goes with that name. The first student to fill in a full row in any direction yells out "Ribbit!" I give out stickers as prizes and we play over and over. It's a great way for the students to learn the other kid's names, and they just love yelling out "Ribbit!" And before starting a fresh game I call out "Free Frog" to remind them to cover that free center frog with a marker.
