Parents who can't let go
By Susan C.

Clip to ScrapBook
Is anyone else having a problem with parents who seem unable to detach from their children? I teach first grade and have two parents who walk their child down the hallway each morning, unpack their book bag, take off outerwear
and hang it on the hook, then wait outside the classroom door while their child walks into the classroom and gets settled in their desk! They also tend to show up at random times during the day to drop off forgotten books, glasses, lunches, ect...

Does anyone have a way of dealing with hovering parents? I have sent home notes to all families asking parents to help encourage
independence by having students enter the school building on their own and be responsible for packing and bringing their needed supplies to school. I have even resorted to closing my door at certain times of the day when these parents tend to linger outside in the hallway.
