I have no problem telling the truth about this. If teachers are sending me students that are unprepared, that's a problem that needs to be recognized and addressed ASAP. I'm dealing with 4th graders this year who came to me not knowing even the concept of multiplication and don't know that when you subtract, the greater number needs to be on top. Because they're coming to me so woefully unprepared, there's no way I can teach my entire 4th grade curriculum. I'm too busy teaching the 3rd grade material they missed!
