Help with writing activity for ss unit
By ismile

Clip to ScrapBook
I am currently in the middle of a Native American unit with my third graders. In reading, we have been doing a genre study of folktales as well that is part of the unit. I have a list of the characters that occur in the myths
of the native people of our community...there is over 40. The list also includes how the animal (character) is most often interpretted. (i.e. a whale often is the hero and the mudfish is its helper).

I was thinking I could do some sort of play writing or skit activity where students choose a given number of characters and portray them in their play as they were most often portrayed
in the native american folktales, however, they have to come up with a new plot. What do you think? Ideas? I just came across this list and it fits perfectly with what we are doing and I would love to incorporate it!

Thank you ahead of time for your wonderful suggestions!
