My experience with Title I
By LaVerne

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Amy,
I would seriously take a look at your state requirements that are given on Mrs. M's link. Each state is different.
For me, I have 39 title reading students in grades 3, 4, and 5 and I meet with them 4 -5
days a week for up to 25 minutes a day. I give my teachers a weekly communication sheet and they let me know what reading plans, spelling, skills, etc they are working on and I take it from there. I make my own plans for each group. There is a title reading teacher for grades 1 and 2 as well. I have had to combine some groups because of the numbers but I do only pull out, even though
I let the teachers choose what they prefer. ( I replaced a person who did it pull out and that is all they know. ) It does give me more flexibility and I really make an effort to address the skills and strategies of each individual classroom.
Our 'coordinator' is our principal and he is hopeless. I won't even go there. My sum total bit of advice when I took over this job was 'you'll figure it out!'
My state will monitor classrooms every 4-6 years so I am betting that will be me next year. Hopefully I have read and done what I need to do because I have had NO help, other than those on this board.
Good luck!!
