I didn't
By SusanTeach

Clip to ScrapBook
We have the opportunity to teach our own children at our school, but so far nobody has. I almost did it when my oldest child was in 5th grade, and I taught 5th. He's a layed-back kid and didn't get in trouble, so I didn't
see that being an issue. However, he's a straight A student, and I didn't want others (parents, students, teachers, etc...) thinking I had given him those grades. I wanted him to show that he earned them just like any other year - so I let a first year teacher take him instead. That would be my main concern - that people would think you let him/her see the tests ahead of time, weren't
fair on grades, etc... Not that HE/SHE would be the problem - but the appearance to others would be.

I did however have my son for an hour each day, for ability-grouped reading that same year. It was wonderful! I loved having him in there, and he still called me Mom. I treated him the same as everyone (except they didn't call me Mom! ;) ), and nobody seemed to mind. It was a non-graded class, so that was an ideal situation.

:s)
