we are required to meet with the 5k teachers and 2nd grade teachers before the end of school (I teach 1st). We let the the 5k teachers know what we expect the students to be able to do the 1st days of school and the 2nd grade teachers let us know what they expect. We also discuss what we each saw this year that may need improvement on.
Our principal expects this of all grade levels. Maybe you should talk to your principal first and see if he/she can bring it up in an upcoming faculty meeting. I can't see a principal not wanting things to run smoothly and seamlessly from year to year. Personally, I like knowing that my students are prepared for the next year and couldn't imagine another teacher not wanting the same.
