I don't agree

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree that the lowest kids benefit from mixed ability classes. However, I am not sure the high kids benefit from being in the classes with lower achieving students. I have a "high" class this year. We have done so much. We would not have achieved this progress if I had lower level students in the class. I find that lower level students need much more of your time, and this pulls from higher level students.

One year, we "ability grouped" classes. Lower level classes had small class sized. Higher level classes were larger. We made tremendous gains that year for all students. I had a higher class. It would be tough to teach the "low" class each year. It would be hard to go from high to low. But, it did benefit the kids.
